SHAWANO – Stratford won two individual titles and had five second-place finishes to earn the team championship at the Shawano Holiday Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.
Stratford finished with 399 points in the 25-team tournament, with Freedom second with 339 and Marshfield third with 333. Spencer/Columbus was 21st with 71 points.
Gavin Drexler won the 145-pound title with an 8-3 win over Freedom’s Nathan VandeHey to improve to 11-0 this season for Stratford.
Elijah Lucio (12-0) took the 160-pound title for Stratford in a battle of undefeated wrestlers by injury default over Marshfield’s Garrett Willuweit.
Dillon Kirsch (152 pounds), Gavin Kirsch (170), Jackson Ormond (182), Raife Smart (195) and Cole Marten (220) all finished second for Stratford.
Marshfield had three individual champions – Caleb Dennee at 126, Keagan Cliver at 138, and Camren Dennee at 182. Hoyt Blaskowski (145) and Cody Weix (195) each finished third for Marshfield.
Spencer/Columbus’ Treyton Ackman took the title at 120 pounds, pinning Griffin Jens of Hortonville in 3:35. He earned his 100th career win at the tournament and is now 6-0 this season.
