Assumption hands Auburndale boys basketball fourth-straight loss

AUBURNDALE – Reed Duellman scored 12 of hits team-high 16 points in the second half as the Wisconsin Rapids Assumption boys basketball team rallied to beat Auburndale 49-44 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale led 21-20 at halftime before the Royals came back to earn the win, outscoring the Eagles 29-23 in the second half.

Bryson Galbreath added seven points in the second half for Assumption (3-4, 2-3 Marawood South) and finished with nine overall. Frank Matott had 10 points as well in the win.

Alex Willfahrt had 10 points, and Mason White Eagle and Caden Weinfurter each scored nine for Auburndale (1-6, 1-4 Marawood South), which lost its fourth game in a row.

Auburndale will host its annual holiday tournament next Monday and Tuesday. Augusta and Weyauwega-Fremont play at 5:30 p.m. with the Eagles taking on Neillsville at 7:30 p.m. Assumption is off until Jan. 3 when it plays a nonconference game at Port Edwards.
