MARSHFIELD – Kade Smigaj had a hat trick to lead Stevens Point to a 5-2 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey matchup Tuesday at the Marshfield Ice Arena.
Smigaj and Carter Drexler scored in the first period, and Smigaj added two more goals in the second as Stevens Point built a 4-0 lead.
Marshfield scored twice early in the third period, on goals from Sawyer Schindler and Thomas Cashmer, to cut the deficit in half, before the Panthers finished off the scoring with a goal from Trevor Herman to ice the win.
Stevens Point outshot Marshfield 42-12 in the win, improving to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. The Tigers are now 8-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the WVC.
Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com starting at 7 p.m.
Stevens Point will be at home against Ashwaubenon for a nonconference game Thursday.
