Kind surpasses 1,000 points for career as Spencer girls basketball edges Abbotsford

SPENCER – Heavyn Kind scored 22 points, surpassing the 1,000-point plateau for her high school career, and Jorie Meyer hit a game-winning shot late in the game to lift the Spencer girls basketball team to a 40-38 win over Abbotsford in a nonconference matchup Monday at Spencer High School.

Kind had 14 points in the first half to push the Rockets to a 22-19 lead at halftime.

Spencer was able to hold on for the win, improving to 9-5 this season. Abbotsford is now 10-5.

Bridget Pogodzinski had 13 points and Sydney Falteisek added 12 for the Falcons.

Spencer returns to Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Thursday at Marshfield Columbus Catholic. The game begins at 7:15 p.m. and will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com.

Abbotsford plays a Marawood Conference North Division game at Athens on Tuesday.
