STRATFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team pulled away late to defeat Neillsville 56-44 in a nonconference tilt Tuesday at Stratford High School.
Stratford led 34-33 with 8½ minutes to go before breaking free, ending the game on a 22-11 run to improve to 17-2 this season.
Neillsville (15-5), coming off a double overtime loss at Columbus Catholic on Monday, just didn’t have enough left in the tank as the Tigers finished strong.
“Obviously they came off a tough loss last night, they went into double overtime and they played hard tonight, fought hard, and that’s not easy to go two hard nights in a row,” Stratford coach Curt Schmidt said. “I’m glad our guys responded by taking care of the ball, that was the main thing. They create a lot of turnovers and I thought at the end we broke them down enough to get some easy baskets.”
Cam Daul had 15 points and Kaden Griesmer had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for Stratford.
Neillsville statistics were not provided.
Neillsville hosts Colby for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game on Thursday. Colby is one-half game behind Neillsville in the conference standings. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
Stratford returns to action Friday with a Marawood Conference crossover game at Rib Lake.
