WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Assumption girls basketball team avenged an early-season loss to Auburndale by defeating the Eagles 54-35 on Tuesday night in a battle of Marawood Conference South Division leaders at Assumption High School.
The Royals led 23-13 at halftime and poured it on from there as nine different players scored in the victory.
Assumption takes over sole possession of first place in the Marawood South at 12-2 and improves to 18-3. The Royals are 12-1 since that 40-34 loss at Auburndale on Dec. 16. Auburndale drops to 16-5 and 11-3 in the conference.
Ainara Sainz de Rozas scored 11 points, and Izzy Jungwirth drilled three 3-pointers and added nine in the balanced scoring attack for Assumption.
Josie Ertl had 17 points for Auburndale.
Both teams take to the road for Marawood crossover games later this week. Assumption will be at Abbotsford on Thursday and Auburndale travels to Athens on Friday.
