AUBURNDALE – Stratford had eight champions and two runner-up finishes to roll to the team title at the WIAA Division 3 wrestling regional Saturday at Auburndale High School.
The top two finishers in each weight class move on to the Division 3 individual sectional at Shawano on Feb. 19.
Stratford, which finished with 280 points to easily outdistance second-place Edgar (143), moves on to the Division 3 team sectional on Tuesday at Suring/Gillett.
Trenton Cournoyer (29-8 at 103 pounds), Gavin Drexler (30-1 at 138), Dillon Kirsch (29-10 at 145), Elijah Lucio (30-1 at 152), Gavin Kirsch (29-7 at 160), Carter Lueck (15-5 at 170), Jackson Ormond (33-8 at 182) and Cole Marten (26-5 at 220) all won regional title for Stratford to move on to next week’s individual sectional.
Raife Smart (25-3) need two win a wrestleback to claim second place at 195 pounds, and Patrick Greenberg (10-6) also earned a second-place finish at 285 pounds to qualify for sectionals for Stratford.
Auburndale, which finished third in the team standings, had six wrestlers qualify for sectionals, including two regional champions.
Colton Weiler (39-5) won the 113-pound title, and Brice Thiel (25-10) earned the 195-pound championship over Smart, who had to default due to injury in the second period.
Derek Godard (28-8 at 106), Sloan Welch (37-5 at 182), Tanner Wargowsky (15-19 at 120) and Noah Altmann (37-6 at 132) all finished second for Auburndale to earn sectional spots.
