MARSHFIELD – Marshfield High School senior Cale Zuiker made it official on Thursday, signing his letter of intent to play college basketball at the Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.
Zuiker announced a verbal commitment to the school on Oct. 15 (click here for the story posted on Oct. 16).
Zuiker, a 6-foot-8 forward, was the leading scorer for the Tigers last season, averaging 13 points a game. He was a unanimous first-team all-Wisconsin Valley Conference selection, leading the conference in 3-point percentage (46.7 percent) and finishing in the top five in scoring, and overall field goal percentage (56.4 percent), while helping Marshfield to a share of the WVC championship, the first for the program since 1992.
Zuiker will play for veteran coach Jerry Slocum, who enters his sixth season at Youngstown State. He has a career record of 610-384, which includes stints at Division II Gannon (Pa.) and NAIA schools Geneva (Pa.) and Nyack (N.Y.).
Marshfield begins its 2010-11 season on Dec. 3 at Baraboo and opens its home schedule Dec. 7 against La Crosse Central.
