ALMOND – The No. 13 seed Spencer boys basketball team pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the state during the opening night of the WIAA playoffs as it downed No. 4 Almond-Bancroft 56-46 in a Division 5 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday at Almond-Bancroft High School.
Spencer trailed 26-25 at halftime before dominating the second half, outscoring the Eagles by 11 to pull out a 10-point victory.
Spencer (8-17) will travel to No. 5 seed Port Edwards (16-9) for a Division 5 regional semifinal Friday at 7 p.m.
Noah Schultz and Luke Roehrborn each had 12 points to lead Spencer.
Ayden Phillips led Almond-Bancroft (17-8) with 15 points.
