STEVENS POINT – The Auburndale girls basketball team’s season came to an end at sectionals for the second year in a row as it lost a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal to Westfield 59-29 on Thursday at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Westfield (26-1), the No. 1 seed in the top half of the bracket, will take on Bonduel (23-4), the No. 3 seed in the bottom half, in a sectional final Saturday at 1 p.m. at Waupaca High School. Bonduel defeated No. 1 seed Neenah St. Mary Catholic 57-46 on Thursday.
Westfield pulled out to a 34-22 lead by halftime and limited Auburndale to just seven points in the second half to finish off the victory.
Annamarie Aue had 10 points and Josie Ertl added nine for Auburndale, which finishes the season 19-8.
Carly Drew nailed five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 25 points to lead Westfield, which will be trying for its second-straight trip to the state tournament on Saturday.
