MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team is heading to sectionals after posting a 51-39 win over Edgar in a WIAA Division 5 regional final Saturday night at Columbus Catholic High School.
Much like in Friday’s win over Gresham, the Dons pulled ahead late in the first half – taking a 23-22 lead into intermission – and drowned their opponent in the second half as they held Edgar to just 17 points to surge ahead.
No. 2 seed Columbus Catholic (23-4) moves into a D-5 sectional semifinal against No. 1 seed Wausau Newman Catholic (20-7) on Thursday at a site to be determined.
Sam Wilczek scored 14 points, and Blake Jakobi and Emmitt Konieczny each added 12 for the Dons.
Ashton Schuett was the lone Edgar player in double figures with 13 points. The Wildcats, who went to the state tournament last season, finishes the year at 14-12.
