Medford sweeps Auburndale baseball in nonconference doubleheader

MAUSTON – The Auburndale baseball team was swept by Medford in a nonconference doubleheader to open its 2022 season on Saturday at the Woodside Sports Complex.

Medford won 10-2 and 10-3 to improve to 5-0 this season.

Auburndale led 2-1 after scoring twice in the top of the second inning of the opener, but couldn’t hold off the Raiders, who scored four times in the third inning and five more in the sixth to finish off the victory.

Aden Cherney had a double and an RBI, and Alex Willfahrt also drove in a run for the Eagles.

Tanner Hraby went 3-for-4 and scored three times, and Logan Baumgartner had two hits and four RBIs for Medford in the Game 1 win.

Medford scored nine times in the first three innings of Game 2 to pull away early.

Willfahrt had two hits and an RBI, and Blake Raab also had two hits in the loss for Auburndale.

Braxton Weissmiller went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Parker Lissner had two hits and two RBIs for Medford.

Auburndale opens its Marawood Conference South Division schedule at Edgar on Monday at 4:45 p.m.
