RHINELANDER – The Marshfield softball team opened its 2022 campaign with a pair of dominating wins at the Rhinelander Triangular on Saturday.
The Tigers whipped Rice Lake 11-1 and Rhinelander 16-1 to start the season with 2-0.
Marshfield had 11 hits in the opener against Rice Lake, winning in five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Sandy Costa and Loryn Jakobi each had two hits, and Costa and Ashlyn Barwick both had two RBIs in the victory for Marshfield.
The Tigers continued their hot hitting into the second game against Rhinelander, scoring nine times in the first inning and eventually finishing off the victory in four innings via the 15-run rule.
Marshfield had 16 hits, with Brooklyn Bohman and Barwick each having three. Bohman had four RBIs, and Barwick, Madalen Bornbach and Jakobi each drove in three runs.
Courtney Donahue struck out 10 and allowed just one hit on the mound for the Tigers.
Marshfield is scheduled to host Wausau West in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Monday at 4:30 p.m. at Madison Elementary School.
