MARSHFIELD – Presley Franklin scored four minutes into the game off an assist from Abby Ongna and that was all the Marshfield girls soccer team needed as it defeated Merrill 1-0 in its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener Tuesday at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield outshot Merrill 25-1 as it dominated defensively and improved to 3-1 this season.

Devin Miller, Ainsley Hall, Cassie Langfoss, Mia Preston, Serenity Paisley and Kailyn Kurth led the defensive attack for the Tigers.

Marshfield hosts Wausau East at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
