ALMOND – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic baseball team pounded out 11 hits and starting pitcher Blake Jakobi tossed four shutout innings as the Dons defeated Almond-Bancroft 11-1 in a nonconference game Tuesday at Almond-Bancroft High School.
Jakobi struck out three and didn’t walk a batter in four strong innings for the Dons, who are now 2-0 this season.
Columbus Catholic scored a run in the second inning on an error before blowing the game open with 10 runs over the next three frames.
Brock Bennington knocked in Cole Timmer with an RBI single, and later scored on a wild pitch. Cy Becker added an RBI single to make it 4-0 in the third.
Timmler added an RBI double, and Bennington had another RBI in the fourth to push the Dons’ lead to 8-0.
Timmler plated two more in the fifth with another double to finish 3-for-3. Emmitt Konieczny, Bennington and Becker each had two hits for the Dons.
Columbus Catholic is scheduled to host Owen-Withee in its home and Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener at 5 p.m. Friday at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield. The game will be live at zaleskisports.com.
