SPENCER – Greenwood scored seven times in the first four innings and held on for a 7-4 win over Spencer in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball opener for both teams on Tuesday at Spencer High School.
Spencer led 2-1 after the first inning as Miller and Prybylski delivered RBI singles for the Rockets.
Greenwood pushed ahead for good with five runs over the next two innings, which included a two-run double by Fletcher Bredlau in the second and an RBI single by Xander Hinker in the third.
Spencer scored twice in the third inning as Reed Knecht doubled and scored on a wild pitch, and Madden Prybylski had an RBI single, but that would be all the Rockets could muster.
Knecht, Prybylski, Kaiden Miller and Jace Zahn each had two hits for Spencer (1-3 overall), which had 12 hits in all.
Bredlau and Hinker both had two hits for Greenwood (1-1 overall). Hinker picked up the win with 4 1/3 innings of shutout relief.
Greenwood plays at Owen-Withee on Thursday and Spencer will host Neillsville on Friday in Cloverbelt East play.
