Columbus Catholic softball drops high-scoring game at Neillsville

NEILLSVILLE – Emma Moseley had a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning and Delaney Rochester shut out Columbus Catholic the rest of the way as Neillsville defeated the Dons 10-8 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener for both teams on Monday at Neillsville High School.

Neillsville scored seven times in the bottom of the fourth inning before Columbus Catholic responded with a six-run fifth to tie the game at 8-8.

The Warriors were able to get the big hit from Moseley in the bottom of the inning and held on from there to win its first game of the season as they are now 1-2 overall.

Cierra Dieringer had two hits, and Akosua Yeboah and Mattea Schlafke each had two RBI for Columbus (1-4).

Ava Mortenson had three hits, and Moseley, Rochester and Amelia Trunkel each had two hits for Neillsville. Trunkel added three runs scored and two RBI, and Moseley finished with three RBI in the victory.

Neillsville will play a conference doubleheader at Colby/Abbotsford on Tuesday. Columbus Catholic will play a nonconference game at Athens on Tuesday.
