MERRILL – The Marshfield softball team swept a Wisconsin Valley Conference doubleheader on the road over Merrill on Thursday, winning both games 5-0.
Sandy Costa and Courtney Donahue combined on both shutouts as the Tigers improve to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.
Costa pitched four innings in the opener, with Donahue earning the save by tossing the final three, and they reserved roles in Game 2 with Donahue getting the win and Costa the save.
Donahue went 5-for-8 combined in the doubleheader and knocked in two runs in the opener.
Madalen Bornbach and Loryn Jakobi each had two RBI in Game 2 for the Tigers.
Marshfield will host Holmen for a nonconference doubleheader Friday starting at 4 p.m. at Madison Field. Both games will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
