MILWAUKEE – Danielle Carlson, a 2009 graduate of Marshfield High School, is a putting together a solid season for the Marquette University women’s volleyball team.
Carlson, who started five matches as a freshman last year, has been one of the key hitters for the Golden Eagles this season.
Carlson had a career-high 15 kills in a 3-2 win over Louisville on Nov. 12. She is fourth on the team with an average of 2.19 kills per set and in kill percentage at .308, playing in all 29 of Marquette’s matches this season.
Marquette was swept by Cincinnati 3-0 on Sunday in a match that decided to the Big East Conference regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the Big East Tournament, which starts Friday. Marquette finished the Big East season 11-3, a school record for victories in the conference.
The third-seeded Golden Eagles (21-8), who had their 14-match win streak snapped in the loss to Cincinnati, will take on No. 6-seed Pittsburgh (13-17, 7-7 Big East) in Big East Tournament quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Friday at Pittsburgh. The semifinals are Saturday and the championship match is at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and will be televised live on ESPNU. This is the first time since 2006 Marquette has qualified for the Big East Tournament.
