AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team won its first Marawood Conference South Division game of the season, downing Stratford 12-2 on Tuesday at Auburndale High School.
After Stratford (5-5, 2-4 Marawood South) scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by Ally Zuleger, Auburndale scored four times in the bottom of the frame and added five more in the second to pull away.
Ashlyn Grimm and Samantha Stanton hit home runs for Auburndale, which is now 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the Marawood South.
Grimm picked up the pitching win for the Eagles, striking out six in a complete game.
The two teams play again Thursday at Hilgemann Field in Stratford. Game time is 4:45 p.m. and it will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com.
