WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield softball team pulled two games ahead of Wisconsin Rapids in the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings with a tight 6-5 come-from-behind victory on Thursday at Lincoln High School.
Raina Manlick had an RBI double and scored on a Brooklyn Bohman fielder’s choice to give Marshfield a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Kendall Ziegahn smacked a grand slam home run in the bottom of the third to give Wisconsin Rapids to the lead before Marshfield battled back.
Marshfield scored a run on an error in the fourth and tied the game in the fifth when Courtney Donahue led off with a double and scored on a groundout by Madalen Bornbach.
The Tigers scored twice in the sixth with the help of a pair of Wisconsin Rapids errors to take the lead.
Wisconsin Rapids got to within a run on an RBI single by Megan Clary in the seventh, but Donahue was able to force two groundouts to finish off the win.
Donahue struck out eight and walked three in the complete-game effort for the Tigers, who are now 11-1 overall and 7-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Rapids falls to 12-3 and 5-2 in conference play.
Madison Voss had three hits, and Shylah Brogan and Donahue each had two hits for Marshfield.
Marshfield will compete at the Cedarburg Invitational on Saturday. Wisconsin Rapids returns to action Monday at home against Merrill.
