EDGAR – Edgar scored once in the seventh inning to force extra innings and earned a walk-off win in the eighth as it defeated Stratford 2-1 in a well-pitched Marawood Conference South Division softball game Tuesday at Edgar High School.

Stratford led 1-0 after Emma Roeper singled home Ally Zuleger in the top of the first inning.

The lead held until the seventh as freshman pitcher Laney Pankratz was on cruise control.

Edgar finally got to her in the seventh as Reagan Borchardt and Leah Davis had singles to start the inning. After a fielder’s choice, Davis scored on a bunt by Jessica Mucha to tie the game.

Pankratz was able to get out of the inning, but the Wildcats were able to eke out another run in the eighth.

Makayla Wirkus singled, went to third on an error, and scored the winning run on a walk-off single by Morgan Streveler.

Wirkus earned the win with 11 strikeouts as she went the distance for Edgar (8-6, 7-2 Marawood South).

Pankratz finished with nine strikeouts and two walks, giving up just five hits, four in the final two innings.

Tessa Berg and Megan Wiese each had two hits for Stratford (7-8, 2-6 Marawood South).

The two teams will play again at Hilgemann Field in Stratford on Thursday at 4:45 p.m. The game will be broadcast at zaleskisports.com.
