Columbus Catholic baseball rips Greenwood, clinches Cloverbelt East title

GREENWOOD – For the first time ever, Marshfield Columbus Catholic is the Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball champions.

Emmitt Konieczny allowed just three hits, and Cole Timmler went 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead Columbus Catholic to a 12-1 win over Greenwood on Thursday at Greenwood Elementary School.

With the win, the Dons improve to 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the Cloverbelt East, clinching the conference championship. Columbus Catholic will wrap up its conference schedule with a home game against Spencer at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield on Friday at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.

The Dons pulled out to a 4-0 lead after a three-run third inning. Following a Greenwood run, Columbus finished off the win with two runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth, ending the game via the 10-run rule.

Konieczny struck out seven and walked three, and also added two hits and a run scored on offense for the Dons.

Grant Olson was 3-for-3 with two RBI, Blake Jakobi added two hits and three runs, and Brock Bennington also scored three times for Columbus.

Greenwood will play at Neillsville on Friday.
