MARATHON – The Auburndale softball team won for the sixth time in its last seven games as it slipped past Marathon 6-5 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Thursday at Marathon High School.
Ashlyn Grimm picked up the win for the Eagles, who are now 7-7 overall and finish the Marawood South season with a 4-6 mark. Grimm struck out eight, walked four and scattered eight hits.
Auburndale pulled ahead with a four-run fifth inning, taking a 6-3 lead. Marathon plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but could not get any closer as it falls to 3-14 overall and 2-7 in the Marawood South.
Mya Krings had a single, a double, a triple and scored twice, Grimm added a two-run double in the fifth inning, and Erin Griesbach had two hits, scored twice and had an RBI in the win for Auburndale.
Jada Prihoda had a home run, and Ella Mader and Sofia Tylinski each had two hits for Marathon.
Auburndale plays a nonconference game at Athens on Friday before hosting Amherst and Northland Pines for a triangular on Saturday.
