MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point swept the four singles matches and picked up a hard-fought win at No. 1 doubles to defeat Marshfield 5-2 and capture the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys tennis regular-season championship on Thursday at the Boson Tennis Complex.
Luke Hinchcliffe (No. 1), Matt Davis (No. 2), Mason DeBot (No. 3) and Sam Kulick (No. 4) swept the singles matches in straight sets for Stevens Point, which finishes its WVC dual meet schedule with a perfect 5-0 record.
Carter Gaede and Noah Hlavac outlasted Justin Rachu and Kai Rens at No. 1 doubles for the Panthers, winning 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
Marshfield’s wins came from the No. 2 doubles team of Kennan Chojnacki and Payton Smith, and the No. 3 doubles team of Corbin Krueger and Ian Sennholz.
The Tigers will finish their WVC schedule Tuesday at Wausau East.
The Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament will be Thursday, May 19, at Wausau East.
