MARSHFIELD – Seniors Makenzie Tesmer and Ava Sainterme scored their first career varsity goals on Senior Night to lift the Marshfield girls soccer team to a 4-0 nonconference win over Mosinee on Monday at Heiting Community Stadium.
Avery Weister scored in the seventh minute for the Tigers and the lead held until Tesmer scored off an assist from Lauren Homolka 20 minutes into the second half.
Sophia Gruenling, another senior for Marshfield (10-8-1), added a goal 1:05 after Tessmer’s. Sainterme, Marshfield’s goalie, took a direct free kick in the 70th minute and scored to finish off the Tigers’ win.
Sainterme had three saves in goal for the Tigers, while Jessica Brown saved nine shots for Mosinee (5-7-1).
“You could not ask for a better finish for these young ladies to finish their careers with three of the four seniors scoring in their last home game,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “It has been a real pleasure to work with all four of these ladies – Sophia Gruenling, Ava Sainterme, Makenzie Tesmer and Makenzie Schreiner. They have worked hard all year and the years they’ve been involved in soccer. They are fun to be around and coach. Their leadership and enthusiasm they bring each day is unmatched.”
The shutout is Marshfield’s ninth this season, which is the second most in program history.
Marshfield will play at Stevens Point in its regular-season finale Thursday at 7 p.m. The Tigers’ game at D.C. Everest on Friday was cancelled. Marshfield will open WIAA postseason play with a Division 1 regional semifinal at D.C. Everest on Tuesday, May 31.
