MADISON – The 2022 WIAA State Softball Tournament concluded with five divisional championship games at Goodman Diamond on the University of Wisconsin campus on June 11.
Kaukauna repeated as Division 1 champions with a dominating 11-3 win over Sun Prairie, completing a perfect 31-0 season. The state title is the program’s fourth, with the others coming in 2010 and 2017.
Freedom (30-2) won the Division 2 championship, the first in program history, with a 5-4 win in eight innings over Jefferson. The Irish were making their first state appearance since 1987.
In Division 3, Poynette (21-5) held off New Holstein 5-3 for its sixth state title (1998, 2005, 2011, 2018, 2019).
Grantsburg (22-2) won the Division 4 championship with a 3-2 win over Horicon. The state title is Grantsburg’s third in program history to go along with others won in 2006 and 2009.
Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (21-2) captured the Division 5 title with a 3-1 victory over Barneveld. The championship is Assumption’s third as well, having won a D-3 crown in 2001 and a Division 4 title in 2005.
