Marshfield Senior Legion splits pair at Chippewa Falls

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield Blue Devils Senior Legion baseball team split a doubleheader at Chippewa Falls on Sunday, losing 2-1 in nine innings before coming back to win the second game 6-4, to improve to 2-1 this season.

Marshfield scored in the top of the first inning of Game 1 as Riley Bauman had an RBI double.

That was all the Blue Devils could manage the rest of the way as they were held to three hits.

Chippewa Falls tied the game with a run in the third and won it with a walk-off double in the ninth.

Nick Urban (3 innings), Braeden Schueller (4 inn.) and Logan Homolka (1 1/3 inn.) combined to allow just the two runs and four hits. Bauman finished 2-for-4.

In Game 2, Marshfield scored three times in the top of the first and never trailed.

Bauman picked up two more hits and scored twice, and Carsten Jirschele and Ben Dietsche each went 2-for-4 with Jirschele driving in three runs in the win for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids in its home opener Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field. The game will be live at zaleskisports.com.
