Marshfield Senior Legion splits twinbill at Appleton

APPLETON – The Marshfield Senior American Legion baseball team split a doubleheader against Appleton Post 38 on Sunday afternoon at Don Hawkins Field.

Appleton won the first game 5-2 and Marshfield the second 9-5.

Riley Bauman, Ben Dietsche and Braeden Schueller each had two hits, with Bauman and Schueller driving in runs for Marshfield in the opening game loss.

Brady Schmidt struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings, allowing all five runs in the loss.

In Game 2, Marshfield racked up 17 hits and led 9-0 before Appleton scored five in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Blue Devils were able to finish off the victory.

Schueller earned the win, going 6 2/3 innings before Jackson Ormond got the final out to finish off the victory.

Dietsche had three hits and four RBI, and Bauman also had three hits and an RBI for the Blue Devils (4-4).

Cole Timmler, Carsten Jirschele, Ormond, Logan Homolka and Bennett Lang each had two hits in the victory for Marshfield.

Marshfield hosts Plover at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
