MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored twice in the first inning without a hit and held on from there, cruising to a 5-1 win over Plover in a Wisconsin Valley Legion League baseball game Tuesday night at Jack Hackman Field.
Kale Weisenberger allowed just one run through six innings and Nick Urban tossed a scoreless seventh to finish off the win for Marshfield, which is now 5-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Plover pitcher Drew Kedrowicz walked three batters and the Black Sox committed an error behind him in the first inning as the Blue Devils took advantage.
Logan Homolka had a sacrifice fly in the opening frame to give Marshfield a 2-0 lead.
Another Plover error on an hard-hit ball by Cole Timmler allowed Urban to score in the second inning, pushing the Blue Devils’ lead to 3-0.
An RBI single by Jackson Fox plated a run for Plover (8-4, 3-1 WVLL) in the third, but that was all the Sox would muster as their seven-game winning streak came to an end.
Weisenberger struck out three and walked two while scattering six singles in six innings. Urban struck out the side around a walk in the seventh for Marshfield. Urban also finished with two of the Blue Devils’ four hits.
Marshfield finished off the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Urban and Timmler.
Both teams return to action Wednesday as Plover hosts Antigo and Marshfield travels to D.C. Everest. Both games start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on zaleskisports.com.
