MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team split a doubleheader against Plover on Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field, winning Game 1 12-3 before falling the nightcap 13-10.
Marshfield trailed 3-2 after four innings in the opener before scored twice in the fifth and putting up eight runs in the sixth to pull away.
Sloan Welch went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored to pace the Junior Devils’ offense.
Chase Robinson, Adam Gilbertson and Henry Zaleski added two hits each, and Jacob Sadowska drove in a pair of runs for Marshfield.
Aden Cherney threw a complete game to pick up the win for Marshfield, striking out two and walking three.
In Game 2, Marshfield led 8-5 after a seven-run fourth inning only to see Plover scored a eight runs over the final three innings to take the win.
Marshfield had 16 hits in the loss, three form Jack Tubbs and Ian Brown. Riley Kroening drove in three runs, and Gilbertson, Owen Griesbach and Cy Becker each had two hits as well for the Junior Devils.
Marshfield (10-13) will play at Merrill on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m. The Senior game between the two teams will be played after the conclusion of the Junior game.
