MARSHFIELD – Stevens Point scored five times in the first two innings and put the game away with a seven-run fourth as it defeated Marshfield 14-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Legion League finale for both teams on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field.
Kale Weisenberger suffered the loss for the Blue Devils, allowing 12 runs – just four earned – in 3 2/3 innings.
Riley Bauman had a double and a solo home run for Marshfield, which had eight hits but mustered just the two runs.
Nick Urban knocked in the other run for Marshfield in the loss.
Kale Roth and Asher Jordan each had three hits, and Braylon Smola drove in three runs and scored three times for Stevens Point (12-16, 9-5 WVLL).
Marshfield (18-12, 8-6 WVLL) will host Fond du Lac for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. to finish off its regular-season schedule. The Blue Devils will take on Wisconsin Rapids in opening round of the Class AAA Legion regional at Athletic Park in Wausau on Wednesday, July 20, at 1 p.m.
