SPARTA – Four Marshfield wrestlers won individual titles to lift the Tigers to the team championship Saturday at the Sparta Invitational.
Daniel Barton (125 pounds), Torin Boernke (130), Brad Dolezal (152) and Jordan Koranda (189) each won titles for the Tigers, who scored 235.5 points.
The Tigers placed in 13 of the 14 weight classes.
New Lisbon was a distant second with 185.5 points and host Sparta was third with 175.5 points. Neillsvile finished fifth with 135.
In the championship match wins for Marshfield:
*Barton beat Kyle Wilson of Neillsville 10-5 to win the 125-pound championship.
*Boernke pinned Matt Blaha of Royall in 3:22 to take the 130-pound title.
*At 152 pounds, Dolezal beat Ian Hackett of Holmen 14-10.
*Jordan Koranda won the title at 189 pounds, knocking off Dan Schoen of Neillsville 5-3.
Trenton Larson (160) and Toran Nieman (103) also reached the championship round.
Larson lost to CoBretti Forsythe of New Lisbon by pin in 1:23.
Nieman dropped a 4-1 decision to Phillip Opelt of Neillsville.
Other Marshfield finishers were: Josh Shupe was third at 135, Cale Schliesman was third at 285, Kyler Strobel took fifth at 140, Bronson Dunow finished fifth at 145, Kody Wilson was fifth at 171, Robert Wille took fifth at 215 and Chris Schmidt took sixth at 119.
