SHEBOYGAN – Marshfield Post 54 dropped its opening game of the Wisconsin Class AAA American Legion Baseball State Tournament on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Eau Claire 14-3 at Wildwood Park.
Marshfield (22-14) will play an elimination game against Genoa City (12-18) at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Marshfield struck first as Riley Bauman and Nick Urban had back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
From that point, it was all Eau Claire.
Eau Claire scored four times in the second, added another in the third and plated three in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead.
The Blue Devils scored twice in the fourth as Logan Homolka and Bauman had RBI singles, but that would be all they could muster.
Eau Claire put the game away with four more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Bauman, Urban and Carsten Jirschele all had two hits for Marshfield, which was outhit 17-8 in the loss.
