SPENCER – Wittenberg-Birnamwood scored four second-quarter touchdowns and went on to a 35-0 victory over Spencer/Columbus Catholic in the Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division football opener for both teams on Friday at Spencer High School.
Kaden Yaeger ran for one score, and quarterback Nathan Waupekenay threw touchdown passes and ran for another as the Chargers built a 27-0 lead by halftime following a scoreless first quarter.
Braeden Groshek added a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to finish the scoring for Wittenberg-Birnamwood (3-0).
Spencer/Columbus was held to just 74 total yards, while allowing 328, and committed two turnovers in falling to 0-3 this season.
Spencer/Columbus hosts Weyauwega-Fremont on Sept. 9 as it will look for its first win of the season. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com.
