WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team won its first game of the season, beating Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 49-35 on Saturday in its second game at the Cranberry Classic at Assumption High School.
The Dons (1-2) used a 15-5 second quarter to pull ahead 26-18 at halftime. Columbus outscored the Royals 23-17 in the second half.
On Friday, Columbus came back from a 24-16 halftime deficit to tie Pittsville at the end of regulation, but were outscored 14-0 in the overtime, losing 54-40.
Jared Boyle had 16 points and Paul Selz added 11 for the Dons in the loss to Pittsville. Travis Pischel and Selz each scored 13 points to lead Columbus in the win over Assumption.
Columbus opens Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Tuesday at Loyal and hosts Colby on Friday.
