Marshfield volleyball rolls to title at home tournament

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team rolled to five-straight sweeps to take the team title at its home Marshfield Invitational on Saturday at Marshfield High School.

Marshfield defeated Ripon 25-18, 25-19; Ladysmith 25-17, 25-20; Ashwaubenon 25-18, 25-9; Antigo 25-15, 25-19; and Abbotsford 25-23, 25-17, to capture the team crown.

Ripon finished second at 4-1, followed by Abbotsford at 3-2, Ladysmith at 2-3, Ashwaubenon at 1-4 and Antigo at -5.

Reinya Balderson continued her strong start to the season for the Tigers, serving up 102 assists in the five matches, and added six aces and 31 digs.

Abby Ongna had 34 kills and 34 digs to lead Marshfield in both categories. Caitlyn Pernsteiner added 30 kills, Rylee Corteen had 24 kills, Elise Uphoff had 26 digs, Grace Taylor had a team-best nine aces, and Lauren Homolka had nine block kills for the Tigers.

Marshfield (15-2) will play a Wisconsin Valley Conference match at Merrill on Thursday.
