AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale football, ranked eighth in Division 6 in this week’s Wissports.net State Coaches Poll, held Hurley, ranked fifth in Division 7, without a point in the second half and pulled out a 29-8 nonconference win on Friday night at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale quarterback Trayton Weber ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for 214 yards and two more scores as the Eagles improve to 4-0 this season.
Weber had a 3-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter to give Auburndale the quick lead, but Hurley pulled ahead at halftime as Jack Caudill scored from the 3 and added a two-point conversion run to put the Northstars on top 8-7 at intermission.
The Eagles owned the second half.
Weber connected with Tim Schmitt for a 70-yard touchdown to put Auburndale in front in the third quarter, and tossed another scoring strike of 33 yards to Aden Cherney.
Weber topped off the win with a 60-yard scoring run later in the fourth quarter.
Auburndale will open its Marawood Conference schedule at Pittsville next Friday, Sept. 16.
