Auburndale volleyball survives close match to win at Stratford

STRATFORD – The Auburndale volleyball team picked up its first Marawood Conference South Division win of the season, defeating Stratford 3-1 on Tuesday at Stratford High School.

The Eagles won 25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 25-22, to improve to 1-2 in the Marawood South. Stratford is now 0-3.

Stratford stormed back from big deficits in the first two sets only to see Auburndale pull out the wins.

In the third set, the Tigers were able to scratch out a two-point victory before Auburndale finished off the win with another tight three-point win.

Josie Ertl had 24 kills and 10 digs, Ashlyn Grimm had 35 assists and 18 digs, and Maggie Baltus finished with a team-high 23 digs for Auburndale.

Ava Weix had 22 digs, Sonia Peterson had 28 assists, Kalyn Schueller had a team-high 16 kills and 14 digs, and Tessa Berg added 10 kills for Stratford.

Stratford will compete at the Abbotsford Invitational on Saturday, while Auburndale is off until next Tuesday when it hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
