WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield freshman Natalie Scharenbroch finished second in the girls race as the team took seventh place at the Wisconsin Rapids Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Ridges Golf Course, home of the WIAA State Championships later this month.
Scharenbroch ran in 19:57.4, finishing more than 1 ½ minutes behind champion Mackenzie Babcock of Monona Grove (18:20.8). Monona Grove on the girls team title.
Michaela Dick was 36th in 21:56.3 and Kassidy Christopher took 39th in 22:01.8 as well for the Marshfield girls.
The Marshfield boys finished 12th in the team standings, which was won by Stevens Point.
Marshfield’s top finisher was Thomas Cashmer, who took 26th in 17:31.5.
Bode Erickson of Stevens Point won the boys race in 15:42.2, 13 seconds ahead of Manitowoc’s Mason Gates.
Marshfield will host the Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet at Frey Field in Spencer next Saturday, Oct. 15, starting at 10 a.m.
