LOYAL – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys earned two top-15 finishes and finished fifth in the team standings at the 2022 Cloverbelt Conference Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Loyal High School.
Sophomore Isaac Scheer finished third in 17:15.3 and his brother, senior Andrew Scheer, was 12th in 18:19.8 for the Dons, who ended up with 151 points.
Bloomer took the team title with 34 points as it had four runners finish in the top eight. Chippewa Falls McDonell, behind boys champion Paul Pfeifer (17:03.4), was second with 50 points. Spencer had an incomplete squad.
Zack Christensen added a 24th-place finish for Columbus, running in 19:16.2.
Malachai Anderson took 45th (20:54.1) and Isaac Howlett was 62nd (21:37.7) for Spencer.
Eau Claire Regis won the girls team title with 52 points, edging Colby by just one point. Columbus Catholic and Spencer both had incomplete teams.
Shaylie Zarza of Thorp/Gilman won the girls race in 20:30.4, 19 seconds in front of Fall Creek’s Jenna Anders.
Rachel Nieman led Spencer, taking 43rd in 24:52.9.
Jenny Schneider was 55th (27:16.2) and Sam Casperson 61st (28:05.1) for Columbus Catholic.
Columbus and Spencer will compete at the WIAA Division 3 Sectional next Saturday, Oct. 22, at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point.
