EDGAR – The No. 3 seed Auburndale volleyball team were looking for a second-straight road upset in the playoffs as it battled top seed and Marawood Conference South Division rival Edgar on Thursday night in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal.
The Eagles took the conference champion to the limit, but were not able to hold on and fell 3-2 to Edgar.
Edgar won 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 15-8, to move on to a sectional final Saturday against another No. 1 seed, Wittenberg-Birnamwood, at Auburndale High School at 7 p.m.
Edgar is looking for its first state appearance since 2003, while Wittenberg-Birnamwood has never reached the state tournament. The winner qualifies for the 2022 WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament at Resch Center in Green Bay on Nov. 3-5.
