AUBURNDALE – Annamarie Aue was on her game as she came out of the chute and drilled five 3-pointers to score a game-high 27 points and lead Auburndale to a 54-32 victory over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in the opening girls basketball game of the season for both teams Tuesday at Auburndale High School.
Aue scored 14 points in the first half as Auburndale built a 23-11 lead at halftime.
She added 13 more in the second half, on the strength of three 3-pointers, and Gracie Krings scored all 10 of her points after halftime as the Eagles pulled away. Ashlyn Grimm added nine in the win.
Columbus Catholic was held to just three made baskets in the first half, all by Hailey Klumb, who finished with a team-high 10 points. Three players, Jenna Kibbel, Maggie Callaghan and Hailey Zimmermann each had six points in the loss.
Columbus Catholic hosts Chippewa Falls McDonell on Thursday in a nonconference game, while Auburndale opens its Marawood Conference South Division schedule at Marathon on Thursday. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
