MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic girls basketball team dropped its second-straight game to start the season, falling at home to Chippewa Falls McDonell 59-37 in a nonconference matchup Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.
Marley Hughes had seven of her 14 points in the first half as the Macks, playing their season opener, took a 23-15 lead into halftime.
The Dons weren’t able to mount a comeback in the second half as McDonell outscored them by 14 in the second half as Emily Cooper scored 10 points and finished with 14 as well.
Maggie Callaghan scored nine points, and Haley Klumb and Jenna Kibbel each had eight for Columbus Catholic, which falls to 0-2.
Columbus Catholic will open its Cloverbelt Conference East Division schedule at home Tuesday against Colby starting at 7:15 p.m.
