MARSHFIELD – It wasn’t pretty all the time for the Marshfield girls basketball team on Friday night against La Crosse Central, but in the end it was pretty dominating.

Marshfield led for all but the first 2 minutes of the game, Dani Minsaas and Ashley Grancorvitz each made four 3-pointers and the Tigers cruised to a 69-53 win in a nonconference matchup at the Chips Hamburgers Fieldhouse at Marshfield High School.

After La Crosse Central (1-4) scored in the opening minute, Marshfield ripped off 13-straight points to take an 11-point lead. Minsaas and Grancorvitz each had six points in the run for the Tigers.

A pair of 3s from Grancorvitz pushed Marshfield’s lead to 19-7 before Central buckled down and closed to within three with a 9-0 run that included six free throws.

Marshfield quickly turned the momentum back its way, scoring 11 points in a row as Minsaas hit three 3-pointers and the Tigers took a 33-20 lead into halftime.

Following another Minsaas 3-pointer, she picked up her fourth foul and went to the bench. Central responded with an 8-0 run, but Grancorvitz hit back-to-back 3s and Ayana Bousum scored on a fastbreak to push the lead back to 13 at 50-37.

Despite Marshfield making just 10 of 19 free throws and committing 18 turnovers, Central never cut it under seven the rest of the way. The Riverhawks finished with 21 turnovers and Marshfield ended up with 11 3-pointers.

Minsaas finished with 29 points and nine rebounds, and Grancorvitz had 20 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers, who remain undefeated on the young season at 3-0.

Brittney Mislivecek had 19 points and Alahnna Simpson scored 15 for the Riverhawks.

Marshfield will host Sun Prairie East for another nonconference game at 3 p.m. Saturday.
