STRATFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team couldn’t hold on to a four-point halftime lead and dropped its first game of the season, losing 59-54 to Athens in a Marawood Conference crossover game Thursday night at Stratford High School.
Athens is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Marawood North, while Stratford falls to 3-1 and 1-1 in the Marawood South.
Ashton Wrensch scored 19 points, Braeden Schueller added 14, and Izaiah Hadlock had 10 points and five rebounds for Stratford.
Athens statistics were not reported.
Stratford returns to action Tuesday with a Marawood South home game against Auburndale. Tip off is set for 7:15 p.m.
