MARSHFIELD – Wisconsin Rapids ripped off four consecutive goals in the second period to pull away and defeat Marshfield 6-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Tuesday at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena.
A Jax Pagel goal in the first period put Rapids on top 1-0 before Marshfield evened things up on a goal by Charlie Kenney 4½ minutes into the second period.
Rapids then scored four times in a 10½-minute span to open up a 5-1 lead and controlled the game the rest of the way.
Joey Cashmer and Jack Mattila had goals in the third period for Marshfield, which falls to 5-3 overall and 0-3 in the WVC.
Cole Halvorsen had 31 saves in goal for the Tigers.
Marshfield plays a nonconference game at Rhinelander on Thursday.
