MARSHFIELD – Colby cashed in on numerous second-chance opportunities as it owned the boards, knocked down 13 3-pointers and pulled out a 77-72 victory over Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a battle of undefeated Cloverbelt Conference East Division boys basketball teams Friday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Tevin Lue connected on five 3-pointers in the first half and a 14-0 run by the Hornets helped them to a 34-29 lead by halftime.

The lead changed hands three times early before the run that started with a 3-pointer by Caden Wiese and contained three Lue 3s as Colby took a 25-13 lead.

Columbus pulled to within five by halftime after back-to-back 3-pointers by Charlie Moore and carried that momentum into the second half.

Emmitt Konieczny hit a pair of 3-pointers and Cy Becker added another as the Dons erased the double-digit deficit and took a 42-40 lead with just under 14 minutes to go.

The game was tight the rest of the way. Colby tied the game at 47-47 on a basket by Matteo Lopez, and after Columbus Catholic went back up by four on two baskets from Lucas Kreklau, Colby scored nine points on three trips down the floor.
