Stratford boys basketball uses second-half surge to blast Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team turned a tight game into a rout with a dominating second half and blew past Abbotsford 72-35 in a Marawood Conference crossover game Friday night at Abbotsford High School.

The Tigers led 32-26 at halftime before outscoring Abbotsford 40-9 over the final 18 minutes to earn the road win and improve to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the Marawood South.

Senior Ashton Wrensch scored a career-high 30 points, shooting 10-for-13 from the field and 3-for-4 from 3-point range, to lead Stratford. Brady Schmidt, Izaiah Hadlock and Braeden Schueller each chipped in eight points in the victory.

Stratford plays at Wausau Newman Catholic on Tuesday. Newman is tied with Marathon and Auburndale for first place in the Marawood South at 6-1.
