Marshfield boys basketball dominates Stevens Point to remain undefeated in WVC

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys basketball team never trailed, built a commanding double-digit lead by halftime, and cruised to a 59-42 victory over Stevens Point on Tuesday night at Marshfield High School to remain in first place by itself in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

After Marshfield and Stevens Point exchanged 4-0 runs to start the game, the Tigers scored 17 of the next 25 points to pull ahead and never looked back.

Senior forward Luke LeMoine made his first four shots from the field and all four of his free throw attempts to help the Tigers take a 29-16 lead into halftime.

A 3-pointer and a fastbreak dunk by Marcus Neve, and back-to-back 3-pointers by Brooks Hinson sparked a 20-9 run over the first 8 minutes of the second half as the Tigers pushed its lead to 49-25 following two more free throws from LeMoine with 10:18 left in the game.

Stevens Point responded with a 10-0 run but LeMoine scored again and Marshfield led by at least 15 the rest of the way.

LeMoine finished 22 points and nine rebounds, Neve added 13 points, and Hinson chipped in 11 as Marshfield won its sixth-straight game to improve to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, one game ahead of second-place D.C. Everest.

Grant Chadonais had 16 points and Benett Klish added 13 for Stevens Point, which falls to 4-7 and 2-2 in the WVC.

Marshfield hosts Wausau West on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
